Of all the places in SF, THIS is the place that actually redeems the entire city! I walked in, first time, these guys were EXTREMELY gracious, very friendly. They handed me a menu, let me take any seat in the place, and were VERY communicative with how they planned out the timing of the food, and when it was coming out. And even when it came out sooner than expected, that was not a problem. The atmosphere is pretty dark, but fitting! Hard to imagine this was an abandoned vessel named the Arkansas.
Been to other places in the city, and they either upcharged claiming inflation was a reason, even though we're all facing it, or they pulled all sorts of tactics to get you to tip more. This place is honest with their prices, and genuine in their attitudes towards you. I had a rough couple days here, but being here for one meal made it all up! Thanks!
We needed a quick drink before we met up with friends in the area. This was a perfect stop. It’s off the beaten path as it’s on the edge of the financial district, North Beach and Telegraph Hill. We came on a Sunday afternoon and it was hopping. I used to come here quite a bit as I worked in the area over the years with 3 different companies. Glad that it’s still kicking.
Exposed brickwork, old school layout with the centrally placed bar preserved, large windows connecting the bar to the street - lots to recommend about this bar. Fish & chips were outstanding, although my Guinness arrived faster than I was anticipating. Highly recommended!
They call it a saloon but it's a lot more family friendly than that implies. The mac-n-cheese is very creamy! They also had no problem seating our party of 6 and a party of 10 at the same time. It was the middle of the week and early in the evening, so keep that in mind. Good selection of beer
Came here on our vacation on a Sunday afternoon. It was pretty quiet in this part of downtown and there was parking nearby. We were both pretty thirsty after exploring the city and stopped here. What a cool old building! This part of downtown sort of reminds me of the buildings of the Midwest; old brick and block. The bartender was super welcoming, nice and chatty. Didn't rate the food because we didn't have anything to eat. Recommended!
Had the tuna melt with sweet potato fries, it was awesome. Great atmosphere and super friendly people coming in and out.
Really cool atmosphere and decor. I came here for Happy Hour and they had some great specials on fish and chips. Really great service too. Definitely planning on visiting again
Strong character, strong selection. The kind of bar restaurant you’d only find in San Francisco. Ample outdoor seating. Its location lends well to taking a stroll outside to the other sights and sounds of the FiDi, North Beach, the Embarcadero.
